I Need to Measure the Level of a Tank – What’s the Right Sensor for Me?

Fortunately, it’s not as difficult as it may seem. All it takes is some basic information about your tank, its contents, and sensor compatibility. Know What You’re Measuring

You’ve already determined what you’re measuring – the level – so that weeds out other types of sensors like pressure sensors or temperature sensors. We offer a variety of level sensors here at Diversified Technologies, but before you pick one out, you need to know what media -the liquid – you’re measuring inside the tank. Do you have gas in your tank? Is it diesel? Or bleach? Any media type impacts the sensor materials that we will specify.

Know Your Compatibility

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.10.8″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Media Compatibility

Are your wetted sensor parts compatible with the media in your tank? For example, if your tank contains diesel, the parts of the sensor that come into contact with the diesel have to be compatible with that substance. We use the Cole-Parmer compatibility chart to spec out what material is compatible with what chemical.

Application Compatibility

Arguably the most important factor, application compatibility simply means the type of sensor needed depends on the application. For example, if your tank has no access to the bottom, you’ll want a submersible level. Each sensor is unique to the application; different materials are used to build the sensor based on the application.
