SENSVISION HLC 890 – An Equivalent to the BD Sensors LMK 809
The BD Sensors LMK 809 is a plastic submersible hydrostatic level probe for continuous measurement in highly polluted and chemically aggressive liquids. It uses a flush-mounted capacitive ceramic sensor with a 99.9% high-purity Al₂O₃ diaphragm in a PP-HT housing, with PVDF available as an option, and covers nominal ranges from 0 … 0.4 mH₂O up to 0 … 100 mH₂O at a standard accuracy of ±0.35% FSO, or ±0.25% FSO optionally to IEC 60770.
The SENSVISION HLC 890 is a directly equivalent plastic level probe covering the same 0 to 0.4 mH₂O through 0 to 100 mH₂O span across thirteen standard steps, corresponding to nominal pressures of 0.04 bar to 10 bar gauge, with matching accuracy of up to ±0.35% of span as standard and up to ±0.25% of span optionally. Long-term stability is quoted at up to ±0.1% of span per year and thermal error at up to ±0.1% of span per 10 K.
The high-purity ceramic is what separates this pair from lighter-duty plastic probes. Both the LMK 809 and the HLC 890 specify a 99.9% Al₂O₃ diaphragm rather than the 96% grade, mounted flush so that solids carried in the liquid cannot pack into a cavity in front of the sensor. Wetted materials are plastic throughout – PP-H or PP-HT as standard with PVDF optional, and FKM, EPDM or FFKM seals – which is what allows these probes to be submerged in acids, alkalis, viscous media and heavily contaminated water where a stainless steel probe would not survive. The HLC 890 body is 45 mm in diameter and weighs approximately 320 g without cable, matching the LMK 809.
Both probes hang on a suspension cable that carries the integrated atmospheric reference tube for gauge measurement, with PUR, FEP and TPE-U sheaths common to both and PVC additionally offered on the HLC 890 at 7.4 mm cable diameter. Both are sealed to IP 68 for permanent submersion. The LMK 809 offers a 2-wire 4 … 20 mA output and a 3-wire 0 … 10 V alternative; the HLC 890 matches this with 4 to 20 mA two-wire on a 9 to 32 VDC supply and an optional 0 to 10 V three-wire version on 12.5 to 32 VDC, adding integrated lightning protection on the two-wire version. Note that the PVDF housing restricts the permissible temperature to −30 °C to 60 °C against −20 °C to 80 °C for the standard plastic body, so the housing material should be chosen against the medium temperature as well as its chemistry.
Whether you are replacing an installed BD Sensors LMK 809 or specifying a chemically resistant level probe for a new acid, alkali or effluent storage application, the SENSVISION HLC 890 delivers equivalent measurement performance, wetted materials and output options as a dependable, cost-effective alternative.
