Applications For Ceramic Submersible Level Sensors
The SLS-CA is the choice for level measurement in liquids that are harder on a sensor:
- Wastewater and sewage – level measurement in wet wells, sumps and treatment tanks.
- Seawater and brackish water – harbor, estuary and coastal monitoring with the marine bronze housing.
- Rivers, reservoirs and boreholes – water level monitoring where sediment is present.
- Tank, IBC and tote level – hydrostatic level measurement of compatible process liquids.
- V-notch weir flow measurement – head measurement for open-channel flow.
- Flood defense monitoring – level monitoring in demanding outdoor sites.
- Telemetry and data logging – 4-20 mA and low-power outputs for remote stations.
Ceramic Or Silicon: Which Level Sensor Should You Choose?
Both technologies measure hydrostatic pressure, but they suit different liquids. A silicon sensor sits behind a thin stainless steel isolating diaphragm and offers the highest sensitivity, making it the better choice for clean water and shallow ranges. A ceramic sensor uses a thick, flush Al2O3 diaphragm that is exposed directly to the liquid.
That ceramic diaphragm is highly resistant to corrosion and abrasion and is easy to clean, which is why the SLS-CA is preferred for wastewater, sludge, seawater and liquids carrying solids. Combined with a marine bronze CA104 housing, which resists saltwater corrosion, it is well suited to coastal and marine installations.

SLS-CA Ceramic Submersible Level Sensor FAQs
When should I choose a ceramic level sensor?
Choose ceramic for wastewater, seawater, sludge and liquids carrying solids. The ceramic diaphragm resists corrosion and abrasion better than a thin metal isolating diaphragm.
When is the marine bronze housing needed?
Marine bronze CA104 is recommended for seawater and saline or brackish water, where it resists corrosion better than stainless steel.
What is the lowest range of the SLS-CA?
The lowest standard range is 5 mWG (about 16 ft of water). For shallower ranges from 0.5 mWG, choose the silicon-sensor SLS-SA.
Can the SLS-CA be used in drinking water or clean water?
Yes, it works in clean water too, although the silicon SLS-SA offers higher accuracy and lower ranges for those applications.
