Applications For Ceramic SDI-12 Level Sensors
The SLS-CD is designed for remote, low-power level monitoring in demanding liquids:
- Wastewater networks – level monitoring in sewers, wet wells and overflows with telemetry.
- Coastal and estuary monitoring – tide and water level logging with the marine bronze housing.
- Rivers, reservoirs and boreholes – long-term records on SDI-12 logging networks.
- V-notch weir flow measurement – digital head measurement for open-channel flow.
- Flood defense monitoring – battery and solar-powered early warning stations.
- Environmental research – unattended monitoring programs and field studies.
Digital Level Monitoring For Harsh Liquids
Remote monitoring sites often combine two challenges: limited power and difficult liquids. The SLS-CD addresses both. Its ceramic Al2O3 diaphragm withstands wastewater, seawater and liquids carrying solids, while the SDI-12 interface lets the sensor sleep between readings so that a battery or small solar panel can run the site for long periods.
An onboard 16-bit microprocessor linearizes and temperature-compensates each reading and uses the integrated temperature sensor to correct for liquid density. The data logger receives calibrated level and temperature values directly, and the SDI-12 software tools can be used for calibration, logging and diagnostics.

SLS-CD Ceramic SDI-12 Level Sensor FAQs
What is the difference between the SLS-CD and the SLS-SD?
Both are SDI-12 level sensors reporting level and temperature. The SLS-CD uses a ceramic sensing element and is available in marine bronze for aggressive and saline liquids. The SLS-SD uses a silicon element for clean water, with lower ranges and higher accuracy.
Is the SLS-CD suitable for seawater?
Yes. Specify the marine bronze CA104 housing for seawater and brackish water applications.
How many sensors can I connect to one data logger port?
Up to nine SLS-CD sensors can share a single SDI-12 bus, each with its own address.
What supply does the SLS-CD need?
A 6 to 36 VDC supply. It draws less than 250 µA when idle and less than 4 mA when active.
