SSPT Subsea Pressure Transmitter, 3000 m Depth Rated

The SSPT is a subsea pressure transmitter built for permanent underwater installation. A 96% alumina (Al2O3) ceramic piezo-resistive sensing element is housed in a body designed to withstand high external pressure, and the complete transmitter is tested to a depth of 3000 m. Electrical connection is through a 2, 3 or 4-pin subsea wet-mateable connector, with other connector types available to match existing infrastructure.

Ranges run from 1 to 400 bar (15 to 5800 psi) in sealed gauge or absolute reference with accuracy of ≤ ±0.25% or ≤ ±0.10% FS. Outputs include mV/V, 4-20 mA, voltage and 0.5-4.5 V ratiometric. The standard housing is duplex stainless steel, with marine bronze or titanium as options.

Applications For Subsea Pressure Transmitters

The SSPT is designed for pressure measurement on equipment that operates permanently underwater:

  • Oil and gas drilling and exploration – pressure monitoring on subsea production and drilling equipment.
  • ROVs, AUVs and unmanned vehicles – hydraulic, ballast and system pressure on underwater vehicles.
  • Subsea hydraulic equipment – monitoring actuators, accumulators and control lines.
  • Submarine installations – long-term pressure measurement on fixed underwater structures.
  • Dredging suction pipes and pumps – suction and discharge pressure on dredging systems.
  • Subsea pods and control modules – pressure feedback inside subsea control systems.

What Is A Subsea Pressure Transmitter?

A subsea pressure transmitter measures the pressure of a process fluid, or of the surrounding water, while the instrument itself is fully submerged. Unlike a standard industrial transmitter, its housing, seals and electrical connection must all resist the pressure of the water column above, which rises by roughly 1 bar for every 10 m of depth, as well as continuous exposure to seawater.

The SSPT addresses this with a thick-walled housing, a ceramic sensing element and a wet-mateable connector that can be plugged and unplugged underwater. The pressure signal is conditioned inside the transmitter and sent by cable to the surface, or to the control system of an ROV or subsea module.

Output Options And Supply Voltages

OutputSupply VoltageResponse
mV/V or 10 mV/V2 to 30 VDCkHz range, depending on pressure range
4-20 mA (2-wire)10 to 32 VDC< 10 ms
0-5 V, 1-5 V or 0-10 V (3-wire)13 to 32 VDC< 10 ms
0.5-4.5 V ratiometric (3-wire)2.7 to 5.5 VDC< 10 ms

Housing Materials And Connectors

  • Duplex stainless steel (UNS S31803) – the standard housing, combining high strength with good resistance to seawater corrosion.
  • Marine bronze CA104 – an option for long-term seawater immersion.
  • Titanium – an option where the highest corrosion resistance and low weight are needed.
  • Connectors – 2, 3 or 4-pin subsea wet-mateable connector as standard, rated to 4000 m; connectors from other major manufacturers on request.

SSPT Subsea Pressure Transmitter FAQs

How deep can the SSPT be used?

The SSPT is tested to a depth of 3000 m, and its wet-mateable connectors are rated to 4000 m.

What is a wet-mateable connector?

A wet-mateable connector can be connected and disconnected while underwater, which simplifies installation and maintenance by divers or ROVs.

Which housing material should I choose?

Duplex stainless steel is the standard choice for most subsea work. Marine bronze CA104 and titanium are available for long-term seawater immersion or where specified by the project.

Can the SSPT be supplied with a different connector?

Yes. Connectors from other major subsea connector manufacturers can be fitted to match existing infrastructure.
