SSTT Subsea Temperature Transmitter, PT100 Class A

The SSTT is a subsea temperature transmitter for long-term underwater temperature measurement. A Class A PT100 sensing element is protected inside a housing built to withstand high external pressure and tested to a depth of 3000 m, with a 2, 3 or 4-pin subsea wet-mateable connector for the electrical connection.

The standard output is a 2-wire 4-20 mA signal, with direct PT100 or PT1000 outputs in 3-wire or 4-wire form as options. Accuracy is ≤ ±0.5 °C or ≤ ±0.25 °C over a -4 to +60 °C media range. The housing is duplex stainless steel as standard, with marine bronze or titanium available, and an optional protruding probe can be supplied in various lengths.

Key Features Of The SSTT Subsea Temperature Transmitter

  1. Class A PT100 Sensing Element
A platinum resistance thermometer provides accurate, stable temperature measurement.

  2. Tested To 3000 m Depth
A pressure-resistant housing for permanent subsea installation.

  3. 4-20 mA Output As Standard
A robust 2-wire signal, with direct PT100 or PT1000 outputs in 3-wire or 4-wire form as options.

  4. Accuracy To ±0.25 °C
    Choose ≤ ±0.5 °C or ≤ ±0.25 °C, with calibrated temperature range options.

  5. Wet-Mateable Subsea Connector
    2, 3 or 4-pin connectors rated to 4000 m, or customer-specified types.

  6. Optional Protruding Probe
Available in various lengths to place the sensor directly in the flow or medium.

Applications For Subsea Temperature Transmitters

The SSTT provides reliable temperature data from equipment that operates permanently underwater:

  • Oil and gas drilling and exploration – temperature monitoring on subsea production and drilling equipment.
  • ROVs, AUVs and unmanned vehicles – monitoring water, oil and electronics temperatures on underwater vehicles.
  • Subsea hydraulic equipment – hydraulic fluid temperature in power units and actuators.
  • Submarine installations – long-term temperature measurement on fixed underwater structures.
  • Dredging suction pipes and pumps – temperature monitoring on dredging pumps and pipework.
  • Subsea pods and control modules – thermal monitoring inside subsea control systems.

How A Subsea Temperature Transmitter Works

The SSTT uses a Class A PT100 resistance thermometer, whose electrical resistance changes in a precise and repeatable way with temperature. Electronics inside the pressure-resistant housing measure this resistance and convert it to a 4-20 mA signal scaled over the calibrated temperature range, which can be carried over long subsea cables without loss of accuracy.

Where the control system has its own RTD inputs, the SSTT can instead be supplied with a direct PT100 or PT1000 output in 3-wire or 4-wire form. A USB configuration kit is available to reprogram the temperature range and signal filtering.

Output Options

  • 4-20 mA, 2-wire – standard, 10 to 32 VDC supply
  • PT100, 3-wire or 4-wire – optional direct sensor output
  • PT1000, 3-wire or 4-wire – optional direct sensor output
  • Startup time – 4 seconds
  • Response time – 1 second

Housing Materials And Connectors

  • Duplex stainless steel (UNS S31803) – the standard housing, combining high strength with good resistance to seawater corrosion.
  • Marine bronze CA104 – an option for long-term seawater immersion.
  • Titanium – an option where the highest corrosion resistance and low weight are needed.
  • Connectors – 2, 3 or 4-pin subsea wet-mateable connector as standard, rated to 4000 m; connectors from other major manufacturers on request.
